The 1887 pattern two pound and five pound coins were struck originally to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria on the 20th of June 1887. While the Royal mint London produced many thousand of both denominations, the Sydney branch of the Royal mint produced a very small number of each denoted by an S on the exergue line above the date.
